You have to play the game. Whether you want to or not. At least be smart enough to know that it is a game that needs to be mastered independent of emotions but, ironically, touching people's emotions. You have to weather criticism and gamesmanship by those who fear your greatness even when you do not see it or you have to manage your emotions when working with a star. You can do your best to break the star down (rarely works unless you have political capital--ask Jesse Jackson when Obama was still running behind Hillary) or team with them. You can fight and be angry when passive aggressive weenies start undermining you or...you can document, tape, etc (where legal), ad possibly threaten at the right time.
Sound Machiavellian? It should be. You will have detractors even if you are doing good--Go ask Buddha, Krishna, Ghandi, Jesus, and Dr. King. Might as well control the narrative.
Excuse the USA government mumbo jumbo but sadly, most people do not know how this system works as it does. This will allow you to look at the media, politicians, and leadership vs management and why, in the end, there is a bloodthirst for power that humans, like animals can not get around.
