A Series of Unfortunate Events is an adaptation of 13 novels in a series by Daniel Handler, who goes by the pen name Lemony Snicket. The series tells the story of the three orphaned Baudelaire children, the many homes and guardians they meet along the way, and of course, trying to keep one step ahead of the greedy Count Olaf.
For its Netflix debut, the eight episodes divide the first four books into two episodes each. Season two and three have already been confirmed, and will use a similar two episode format for each book.
