When tweeting about the issues doesn't feel like enough, the next best thing to do is run for office. I've had a half-serious itch to do that recently, but we live in a very conservative area now, so I wanted to talk to someone who faced similar odds.
Khary Penebaker (@KharyP) is an African-American man in a deep red part of Wisconsin. He's an optimist, so he threw his hat in the ring and ran for a congressional seat, challenging a 38-year incumbent this past year.
He lost, but it was a valiant effort, and he's here to tell us about the experience.
"Democracy requires our participation."
