When’s the last time you smiled? I bet it’s been too long. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Often we get down and that unhappiness can last for days or even years. Here are some scientific ways to put some “happy” back in your life. Cut the commute – if you live too far away from your job move closer. Turn off the tube and start exercising – it doesn’t take much, research shows just seven minutes a day of a real workout will do it. And practice smiling. Believe it or not, just the act of making your facial muscles turn that frown upside down will increase the hormones that improve mood. So fake it until you make it by practicing your smile at least five times a day. If you do – a funny thing may happen – people will actually smile back at you too!
