Segment 1
Intro
Our focus today is postpartum depression. Even if you are not a woman of childbearing age, this topic may still affect you in some way, whether that be dealing with a wife, your grown children, or grandchildren. Even more surprising, postpartum depression can also strike men. We have a special guest later this hour Kimberly Hershenson a NYC based therapist whose practice revolves around this very topic.
Stats - Centers for Disease Control, 11 to 20% of women who give birth each year have postpartum depression symptoms. Take the average of 15% of four million live births in the US annually - approximately 600,000 women get PPD in the US each year What has been your experience with PPD in your life or with patients? Only 15% of women with postpartum depression ever receive professional treatment. This means about 850,000 women each year are not getting the help they need. Do you think there is a stigma – either real or perceived around PPD?MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK
THAT MUSIC MEANS ITS TIME FOR DOC SHOC. A TIME WHEN WE FIND SOMETHING SHOCKING IN THE NEWS OR WE’RE SHOCKED IT MADE THE NEWS.
Love this one! I have always had an unbelievable sense for determining someone’s heath by looking at their face. I can tell you when a woman is pregnant, even as early as 8 weeks. I have also accurately predicted cancer, high blood pressure, and illness before the symptoms arrive. I am so glad to know that I am not crazy, as some people have suggested (not saying who). According to a published article in Frontiers in Psychology, selfies will soon be able to determine a number of health issues using the same technology that is based on the human brain. Turns out, many humans have a very developed facial recognition and facial change radar. It makes sense really that the status of health can be found in the face, after all if we want to look younger and healthier, we get a face lift! We are judged by our face all the time.
