Part two of Beav’s Banter with Betsy Vallery, daughter of Dick Rehbein, Tom Brady’s first believer in the pros!
We all know the legend of Tom Brady (GOAT). From 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft to five Super Bowls, multiple NFL MVPs, etc. But a lesser-known story is about one person in the Patriots war room that fateful draft day in 2000 who was Tom Brady’s first believer.
His name is Dick Rehbein. A 23 year veteran football coach in the NFL, he joined the Patriots in 2000 as the Pats’ quarterbacks coach. In that role, he saw something in Tom Brady few others did - given that the future GOAT was still around for pick number 1999.
We lost coach Rehbein to a sudden heart incident in 2001, but his daughter Betsy was gracious enough to spend some time in Beav’s World with some insight into the Rehbein household during the advent of Brady’s arrival at Foxboro.
