Around 40% of the population will or has suffered from sciatica at least once. The Sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and runs from your lower back, through the buttock, and down the leg. Often times sciatica is not just a diagnosis, but a symptom of something more serious. Herniated disks are the most common cause. When the sciatic nerve is pinched, it can cause shooting pain and numbness down the leg. It is important to remember that numbness and tingling can be a sign of something else so it is important to talk to your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms of sciatica.
