Did you know you can grow your brain? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. It’s true, you can grow your brain and the easiest way to do it is through exercise. That jog around the block or those laps in the pool are not just good for the extremities, they help your brain too. When we exercise, acetycholine is activated and our levels of neutrophins increase – causing brain cells to be made. A research study out of the University of Victoria found that people who take up walking three times a week see an increase in brain size in as little as three months. This is also great news for those suffering from or at risk for dementia because a separate study found that 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s by 35%. So get up and get moving – your brain will thank you.For more unique and useful health information on more than 100 different topics, visit STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM where you can also find my book, Aged to Perfection, How to Thrive to 100, Happy Healthy & Wise.
