On the agenda:
This is a special edition of the Circuit Breaker podcast. Host Clayton Davis is joined by Emmy Award winner Jenelle Riley, Awards and Features Editor of Variety, along with Erik Anderson, founder, and editor of AwardsWatch. Looking at the Oscar nominations from Tuesday from different perspectives, more notably the reactions from the different coasts, we're discussing the surprises and exclusions in the major categories. Beginning with our feelings about the nominations announcement. Did it work and why was John Bailey missing? Best Picture produced eight nominees this year and only three of them have the "right" nominations to win the top prize but is it that simple? "BlacKkKlansman" from Spike Lee is showing strength despite the miss for John David Washington in Best Actor. Is it the frontrunner? "A Star is Born" and "Green Book" missed out key mentions despite being touted as frontrunners and now "Roma" seems to have the momentum. How does it shake out with DGA and BAFTA on the horizon? "The Favourite" has 10 nominations, tied for the most of the night. Is there a road for it in the top category? There could be a default four-person acting winners club: Christian Bale ("Vice"), Glenn Close ("The Wife"), Mahershala Ali ("Green Book"), and Regina King ("If Beale Street Could Talk"). But not so fast...the SAG Awards are this weekend and could throw a wrench in the works. COMMENT AND SEND IN #CINEPHILESHOWDOWNS, #DELETETHEACTOR,LIKE Us on Facebook: The Awards Circuit Facebook Page
