Cellulitis, not to be confused with cellulite, is an infection caused by bacteria in the deep layers of the skin. It can begin suddenly and become life threatening if not properly treated. Symptoms of cellulitis include redness, swelling, warmth, tenderness, inflammation, and pain. It’s most commonly caused by cuts, bites, burns, and ulcers. If you have psoriasis or eczema, you may be at a higher risk for developing cellulitis. Drinking plenty of water and elevating the affected area may help alleviate symptoms. Be sure to talk to your doctor and seek medical help if you believe you are suffering from cellulitis.
