This week John interviews Dr. Nilesh Dave, a board-certified pulmonologist. Nilesh began to serve in leadership roles well before he understood the full meaning of what that would entail.
His first clinical position required him to start a brand new sleep lab for a large hospital. So, he was thrust into making important decisions and communicating with colleages and decision-makers from the get-go. It wasn't until later that he came to understand the management and leadership principles that would have been helpful during that process.
As a result, he knew early on that he wanted to pursue a nonclinical career with more leadership opportunities. Along the way, he decided to complete an executive MBA, while still working clinically.
He is now medical director at a very large health insurer, and is just starting to fully implement the leadership skills he learned from his previous experiences and his MBA.
During our conversation, we spend time talking about the different types of business degrees, and how and when to commit to obtaining one.
