In today’s interview, Dr. David Norris describes why he became interested in healthcare finances, especially as it relates to running a physician practice.
He completed medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and an anesthesiology residency and fellowship (Cardiovascular) at Vanderbilt University.
He was always interested in the financial and business side of health care and medical leadership, so he has spent years studying those fields. Because of his business finance knowledge, he became the managing partner of his anesthesia group.
He later completed his MBA at the Wichita State University Barton School of Business, and sought certification as a Physician Executive. Then he authored a book.
His book The Financially Intelligent Physician: What They Didn't Teach You in Medical School was published in 2017. He has been teaching, speaking, consulting and coaching for several years.
His most recent career shift was to become a broker specializing in mergers and acquisitions of mid-market healthcare businesses.
