Things get political this week with a pair of interviews that fit perfectly with the upcoming Canadian federal election. First is Dave Horak, who is directing Theatre Network’s first show of the season, E Day – a new comedy by local Edmonton playwright Jason Chinn that was inspired by Chinn’s work on the 2015 Alberta NDP election campaign. After that, Max Rubin – director of Studio Theatre’s upcoming production of Richard III – talks about demagogues and how Shakespeare is more relevant than ever. Mel also talks about the bad news for Theatre Ontario and hopes that the new Alberta provincial budget doesn’t jeopardize our own province’s theatre service organization.
