This week, I bring you my conversation with a former academic pediatrician who transitioned to a career as medical director with a contract research organization, or CRO.
Dr. Michelle Bailey received her medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University and completed her pediatrics residency at Duke University Medical Center. She trained in the Integrative Medicine Fellowship through the University of Arizona, and served on the faculty of Duke University School of Medicine for many years.
She is also a life and career coach, helping other physicians find fulfillment and balance in their personal and professional lives. You may notice during the interview that she has the heart of a coach and mentor.
Michelle helped me get a better understanding of the options for physicians in the pharmaceutical industry. I now understand the difference between the medical director working in medical affairs or safety and pharmacovigilance, the medical monitor, the medical science liaison, and the clinical research associate.
