His role in the development of the Roland-TR 808 is foundational. His innovation led directly to MIDI-based instrumentation. His work trail blazed the home studio for musicians/producers. He also fought the musicians union, or more accurately, they fought him as the industry struggled to keep up with his pace of innovation.
