Fasting is an ancient practice, oftentimes associated with religions throughout the ages. But the concept of intermittent fasting is new and has recently exploded in popularity. What exactly is intermittent fasting? In this episode of Journey To Personal Greatness, Alvin Brown and Dr. Matt Flory Of Functional Health Team discusses Intermittent Fasting 101.
How did your background inspired you to be where you are today? (03:15)
- And so what we now have to have a word for fasting to get across this idea, to untrain our minds from. Oh, I got to eat, you know, three square meals a day and have a snack, you know, a certain type of snack or something. We've got to like, have a whole world now for what used to be normal. Right. So it really, there, there's just an excellent argument for why isn't that normal.
- We should really kind of talk about it and hash out around this concept, because if we want to talk about peak performance, right. Um, our body is set up for fasting for that to be normal or for, you know, there's this fascinating concept to be not something that needs its own word.
- How that is disproportionate to our lifestyle calorie output. You know, so I think all of these things are things that we need to be talking about from the outset on this topic of fasting, you know?
- I focus on it cause it's all about the mindset. How many more diets can we create for people to eat, to do some simple as eating and they were still having a problem with
What can we learn from success and failures? (09:36)
- You know what the best one is? The one you'll stick to that works for you that you'll consistently do.
- So I love this idea of eating. My main point here is I like to be logical. As you said, human beings, we weren't made to eat five meals a day six, especially if you're not doing anything, why are you eating?
- If you're not doing anything to use it up.
- Not an overabundance and all of a sudden there is right. And so there's a certain. There's a certain aspect to this. I believe that's kind of about the pride or, you know, the ego type of a thing with the wealthy, wealthy nations. Right. Having not, instead of being half knots. And I get that, but we need to maybe acknowledge that.
What can we inspire the people around us? (19:36)
- And what we find is that because food became a big money industry, so huge and so broad that thing was done to our food to make us want more of it. There are components within say wheat and other and other additives, food additives, but you could extract some of these from wheat and then you'll get enriched foods.
