Becky and Autumn sit down with music therapist, Megan Ronnow. Megan shares how music therapy can help us change our behaviors as well as heal the body and mind. Megan describes how music therapy is helpful in easing anxiety, managing pain, and increasing mindfulness. It enhances quality of life and helps people stay in the present moment. Megan explains that music is powerful because it’s a way of communicating without speaking. It also helps resolve conflicts and increases self-respect and self- esteem. In her work as a music therapist, Megan has found that meeting people where they are, instead of dismissing their feelings, is what has helped engage and heal those she works with. Beyond the traditional music therapy setting, things such as chanting, songwriting, affirmations, deep breathing, focusing on the present moment, and drumming can be powerful tools. Music therapy is individualized and looks different for everyone.
