The Uyghurs are an ethnic Muslim minority in Northwest China, and since 2017, they have been victims of cultural genocide because of the Chinese government's efforts to eliminate their voice and culture. According to the UN, at least 1 million Uyghurs have been interned since 2017, in more than 85 identified concentration camps. Because of China's human rights violations, many have been calling to boycott the 2022 winter Olympics which will be held in Beijing. In this podcast, Bre Smith interviews Peter Irwin, the Senior Program Officer for Advocacy and Communications at the Uyghur Human Rights Project about what actions should be taking as citizens and consumers.
