Welcome to The Kayleigh O’Keefe Show!
Virginia Schmidt experienced a rebirth smack dab in the middle of COVID. When the pandemic hit in full force, Virginia was in Guatemala learning Spanish and had been living with her host family for all of three weeks. Although all of the other students at her program decided to return home when borders began to close, Virginia followed her heart and stayed put.
Tune into this week’s episode of The Kayleigh O’Keefe Show to learn more about:
• The complexities of codependency
• The difference between writing with passion and writing from the heart
• The intellectual/imaginative brain vs. the rhythmic brain
• What it means to live a truly authentic life!
Quotes
• “It was actually one day when I was meditating that I had this, just out nowhere….out of the dark, out of the silence, just the phrase, ‘Youtube videos.’” (14:03-14:19)
• “Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.” (18:44-18:49)
• “[The codependency class] was sort of the beginning of that opening of awareness where I realized that, again, even though I had this sort of sheen of like, ‘I get my self-love from myself, I believe in myself, I’m so independent,’ that in fact, I really was really codependent on getting my validation from others in my life.” (28:32-28:58)
• “This kind of alone time that I spent [in Guatemala], it was like suddenly I was able to pick myself up from my own life, and when I looked over the landscape of it, I was like, ‘I have been really codependent.’” (30:25-30:39)
• “Well, what do you actually want? Like who are you? Like we get it Virginia, that you can go adapt to and be good at any situation that you get put into, like that’s awesome. What would happen, though, if you were good at a situation that you created for yourself instead of one where you make sure that whoever it is you’ve attached yourself to is gonna feel comfortable with you?” (34:55-35:20)
• “The takeaway is to become the subject of our own heart’s desire. And that’s the difference between...writing something that I think other people are going to like versus digging deep down and seeing like, ‘What is it that my heart actually has to say?’” (40:35-40:56)
• “There are times when we need to use...the computer that is our brain, but honestly most of the time we can be in more of a rhythmic state that I think connects us to whatever pulse or rhythm or heartbeat is behind this whole life experience thing.” (53:42-54:07)
