It’s hard for us to live into the love of God without embracing a desire and commitment to love others. As we look at the teachings of Jesus, we often see him focusing his disciples’ attention away from themselves and onto God and other people. How do we become disciples who love others well? We first have to remember that our identity is rooted in Christ, and then we can learn to love others rightly. Discipleship is mission, because our life in God is a life lived for others.
