What we’re talking about:
Today I’m chatting with Tina who is completing a Master of Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe University. We discuss how she experimented with different study strategies to work out what worked best for her in VCE, how she navigated not really knowing what she wanted to pursue, and how she wants to incorporate other interests into her career as a physiotherapist.
Structuring your study to suit youTina recognised that what worked for her in VCE was to get to school early or stay late and get all her homework done at school instead of bringing it home. It felt difficult when her friends were doing things differently, but she stayed true to herself and worked out which strategies worked best for her. She also discusses how she experimented with different study plans for English and Specialist Maths in particular to find out whether changing her approach would improve her results.
Being unsure about what to study after VCETina wasn’t sure what she wanted to do and speaks about being reluctant to see her school careers counselor because she didn’t really know her, but she admits now that it was very helpful. She investigated further at the Open Day so she had some courses to put into her VTAC application when it opened, but she also knew that she could move courses around in her application later so wasn’t too concerned about it. Tina also applied for an early admissions program (Aspire) at La Trobe and she talks us through that process.
Physiotherapy and YogaTina is about to embark on placements to experience different settings that physiotherapists can work in. She also is really interested in yoga and is keen to train to be a yoga instructor and incorporate the philosophies of yoga into her work as a physiotherapist.
