As Marc explains, humans — like other living creatures — evolved to enjoy eating. We developed specialized taste buds including those that are stimulated by sweet foods as an evolutionary imperative. While it’s part of our natural biology to crave sweets and other foods, societal conditioning causes us to feel guilty and self-punish. Part of the key to working with intense cravings is by bringing understanding to this natural biological wiring. In doing so, we’re better able to recognize what drives these urges and to let go of the guilt we feel when we indulge. As we begin to normalize our cravings, we also want to bring consciousness to the table. As Marc coaches, consciousness allows us to check in with ourselves and have a deeper conversation about what we really want and need in a given moment.
