Are you someone who redlines on a daily basis, can’t sleep at night, and even as your body is falling apart, you think, “I’m just going to feel exhausted and bone tired for the next 18 years and then my kids will all move out and magically everything will get better”? Do you assume if you’re struggling that you just need to try harder? Does your life look amazing on the outside but it doesn’t feel OK?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are likely deeply burned out.
This week, I interview Tracy Bingaman who experienced all of those things as a hard-driving surgery PA. On a gut level, she knew something had to change. She would say, “I can’t keep doing this” but because she was so busy and deep into burnout, she didn’t have time to figure out what to do instead.
Burnout served as a wake-up call and since then she has transformed her life and career. After quitting her job, she created balance and peace where there was frenzy and chaos. Now she teaches working moms to have more time and more money than they know what to do with. You can find her loving her husband, pups and kids, chasing her dreams, skiing, reading fiction books and enjoying a well mixed margarita!
Her 3 tips include:
#1: Determine your Basic Needs and start meeting at least one a day.
#2: Create a clear, enforceable boundary (with others or yourself) and then stick to it.
#3: Remember to rest - schedule time to actively rest and recover from the depths of burnout - not Netflix and veg, but to rest and give your body and mind the restorative support it needs.
