Wharton Business School Professor Adam Grant says that there are often three types of people in the workplace: Givers, takers and matchers. While the conventional wisdom is that takers succeed in the jungle of the workplace, Grant says that givers succeed just as much. Grant joined host Mark Micheli on the Excellence in Government podcast to explain the concept.
Grant has spent 10 years studying the relationship between givers and takers and has authored a book on his findings called Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success. His work was profiled recently in The New York Times Magazine.
