In 2020 Don started a non-profit with a partner, focused on helping military spouses and veterans in their career transitions from the military to non-military life. They explored the concept, thought about it further, then went straight to a beta test and started the business without first forming the non-profit. Over the next 3 years, they could not agree on the partnership formation or dissolution, roles and responsibilities, fundraising methods, customer service processes, or business metrics. Finally, one partner stepped away. Today, we’re talking to Don about his lessons learned, and how to improve the process of partnership formations.
