Today, we continue the discussion on “Hiring” by looking at the step which is most often butchered by the business owner, “Interviews”. Many of the nasty challenges faced by making a bad hire could easily be avoided by planning and executing a great interview … asking the right open-ended questions, focusing on both hard skills and soft skills, designing questions that are informed by the uniqueness of the job function being filled, knowing how to get a sense of ‘fit within the organization’ and having an intelligent system of gathering data and scoring each candidates answers. Sounds like a lot of work, right? Just remember this, solid preparation and good questioning techniques build great teams, and avoid ugly and expensive consequences downstream. If it were easy we wouldn’t be having this discussion!
