Today, we conclude the discussion on “Hiring” by looking at an activity that most entrepreneurs overlook. The first 90 days of a new hire are critical, so how do you gauge whether you made a good hire and if that new employee is performing at the level you anticipated? Are you measuring their performance against a set of standards that were known and communicated prior to hiring them? Do they know how you are perceiving their efforts? Does it appear that they are fitting in and achieving their objectives, but in reality, they are doubting their own performance? Or worse, do they think they’re a superstar, but you’re not satisfied with their progress? Legally, you may have only 90 days (or less) to correct issues, after which it can become very difficult to cut someone loose if you have not done the proper job of communication and feedback with the employee. This is a multi-faceted process that requires thought, strategy, and action! We discuss the key activities in this program.
