Megan Kitt is an international journalist turned entrepreneur whose writing assignments have taken her across the United States, into Asia, and to Africa. Her travels inspired her to, at age 23, found Tuli, a social business that fights poverty by creating sustainable jobs in Uganda rather than focusing on one-time aid efforts. Tuli sells handmade Ugandan jewelry all over the world, both in retail stores and online.
A journalist by trade, Megan got her start as a fashion model, a job whose income she used to pay for her undergraduate degrees in English literature, creative writing, and journalism, which she earned in 2012. Through her work as a model, Megan learned enough about the fashion industry to catapult Tuli to success.
After taking a trip to Uganda in early 2014, Megan started Tuli from scratch, developing its website and product line alone before aggressively growing the business. For Tuli’s first year of business, Megan was the sole operator of the company. Now, she employs a team in the US in addition to those she employs in Uganda.
Currently, Megan lives in Tokyo, Japan with her husband, where she oversees Tuli’s remote team. Though Tuli is her main focus, writing remains an important part of her life, so she works as a freelance travel writer and journalist for several media outlets and is pursuing a graduate degree in creative writing.
