This episode of Unmasked was recorded back in 2008, at Comix Comedy Club in New York City. The club was located in the meat packing district and is no longer there, and of course we lost David Brenner just last year but we're very lucky to have this hour of Brenner talking about something few performers address- integrity. If you were a fan of the Patrice O'Neal Unmasked, this hour will be of particular interest to you because Brenner was a man who not only would not play the Hollywood game- he absolutely couldn't. His Philly street upbringing became a part of everything he did and you'll hear him talk passionately about how he couldn't take shit off anyone, and there are great stories about the things he lost out on because of it. Brenner was on the Tonight Show more than any other performer and with good reason. He's one of the funniest men who ever took the stage- and he actually changed comedy. Brenner is considered to be the creator of observational comedy- the man who moved material from jokes to talking about things you notice in every day life. During the hour he also talks about building a set, the fragility of comedy, and there are amazing stories about his father, who in many ways inspired Brenner to be funny.
