Do you drink alcohol? You may want to rethink the extra drink. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute. A new study out of the University of Cambridge showed that even having one extra drink could shave months, even years off of your life. According to the study, drinking excess alcohol can also lead to cardiovascular diseases. The study consisted of 600,000 participants and spanned over 19 countries. Shocker! Out of all of the counties, the US alcohol guidelines were found to be one of the most lenient. The magic number is seven. Seven STANDARD DRINKS were considered “safe”. What’s a standard drink? A small can of beer or a 5 ounce glass of wine. Turns out, an extra glass a day does not keep the doctor away.
