When you’re exhausted and feeling burnt out
If you’re feeling exhausted and on your way to burnout, teary eyed and wondering why things aren’t easier...I feel you!
When you’re waking up in the morning wanting to cry into your cheerios feeling not so cheery and wondering how you’ll make it to next year in tact then I want you to remember that you HAVE got this. I know I know, such a cliche but seriously you have. If you want it and you decide you’re going to have it then you WILL have it.
But that doesn’t mean you have to beat yourself up in the process.
The depths of silly season are dark
While we are right in the deepest darkest depths of silly season where we’re eating and drinking ourselves into oblivion, trying to finish things off so we can actually have a break, not getting enough sleep and getting a little too boozy suzie a little too often we HAVE to look after ourselves.
It’s important now more than ever. You can EASILY head straight for that entrepreneurial burnout, especially if you have a job to juggle too!
You feel pulled in a million directions, like you’re never where you’re supposed to be or doing what you’re supposed to do and it’s HARD.
We have to sort this now so you don’t decide to burn your entire business to the ground because it’s just too damn hard.
The first thing is to acknowledge where you’re at. Right now. You’re not going mad, you’re exhausted!
You need some rest and to switch your brain off for just a moment. This is normal, especially this time of year, but it’s not ok to stay there.
Once you’re aware of why you may be feeling demotivated, more irritable than normal, why you’re not sleeping well, you’re exhausted all the time, reaching for the junk food or want to cry at the drop of a hat.
Once you realise what’s going on you can take steps to change it. This is the first of those steps.
Money and Time
I know you’re not going to like the next one but this is the time, where you have no time, that you need to find time.
It’s so important to carve out time just for you, even if it’s 30 mins, even 10 mins to meditate, just find it.
The funny thing with time is it’s like money. We always say we don’t have it but can ALWAYS find it when it’s a priority.
Make it a priority.
I always make sure I schedule it in, I know it lacks spontaneity BUT it means it actually happens. My other half is on board with this too. If he knowsIi’ve been feeling stressed out or working too hard he runs me a bubble bath, puts in all the essential oils and salts under the sun and gives me that time. (I know, the dream right! #smug)
Story time!
Think about what stories you’re telling about your time at the moment and use one of my favourite questions. What’s one more thing you COULD do to make this easier?
We have a tendency when we’re labelling ourselves as ‘busy’ to create even MORE work just to justify the label.
We are our own worst enemies here. We actually create MORE things to do when the reality is things CAN be simplified.
Go back to my scary brain dump to do list and get really honest about what actually HAS to be done.
Make sure you’re saying no to other people too, this is a big one. When you know you can’t take any more on you have to know when to say no.
Thinking about over thinking?
We get stressed when we’re overthinking. We’re FAR busier in our heads than we actually are in reality.
These moments are when it’s really important to make sure you connect with other people, reach out, you can change your thought process in an instant if you talk to the right person.
I help clients do this all the time, it’s all too easy when you’re stuck in your own little negative loop to not see the woods for the trees. Talk to someone!
Resist the urge to sink into the shadows hoping that the fog will lift.
The usual suspects
Sleep well, eat well, don’t drink too much, exercise, get your vitamin D,spend 15 minutes purely on your gratitude practice, all the things you instinctively know but don’t follow.
Remember that you’re essentially out of ‘fuel’ and you need to fill up the tank!
Check in with yourself to make sure there’s anything else going on and if you’re unsure go speak to your doctor.
We need to get you back to thinking clearly.
Limit decisions you need to make, even things that seem super simple like choosing what to wear or eat every day. IF you plan it in advance all in one go it frees up some much needed headspace and wards off decision fatigue.
Remember that when you’re constantly in a heightened state of stress Cortisol and adrenaline are running through your body, you lose the inability to think clearly, we need to calm that down.
Breathe!
Please, please remember why you started this thing! You have a message that someone else needs to hear.
You have a life that you were meant to live.
No one ever said it was going to be easy, but it does get easier...and it’s so worth it!
