A few weeks ago, John was interviewed by Dr. Michelle Mudge-Riley for her podcast. Michelle runs Physician Helping Physicians, a mentoring and coaching business that helps physicians effectively navigate the process of career transition.
During the interview, John describes his experiences shifting from his clinical work as a family physician to his new career in hospital management. He thoroughly enjoyed that career, but 15 years later he was recruited by investors to help open a start-up urgent care center. He saw it as a good opportunity, so he left his nonclinical career to work in a combined clinical and nonclinical role as medical director.
He continued to do that work part-time, while he started a blog and then this podcast. He is now in the process of turning the podcast into an online business.
Michelle generously allowed John to present their conversation here on the PNC podcast as an instructive example of career change.
Michelle and PHP are hosting a conference dedicated to this topic in Austin, TX, on April 6 and 7, 2019. As of the date of this podcast, there are a few spots open if you wish to attend. You can learn more about the conference, and hear interviews with other physicians, on Michelle's web site at Physician Helping Physicians.
